Short (50 words)

Aquafern is a water-parameter log for fishkeepers. It's built around two things most aquarium apps get wrong: entering six test results should take seconds, not minutes, and the resulting charts should actually explain what the tank is doing. Freshwater-first, reef fully supported, no account required.

Long (120 words)

Aquafern is an aquarium water tracker for iPhone and iPad. Its logging screen presents one parameter at a time with an oversized keypad and, for kits read off a colour card, the exact values that card can produce — so a six-parameter freshwater test is usually about eight taps.

Results are charted as small multiples on a shared timeline, each parameter against its own ideal range, with water changes drawn through the whole stack so cause and effect are visible. Eighteen parameters are supported with target ranges for freshwater, planted, brackish, saltwater, reef and pond tanks, all editable per tank.

There is no backend. Data lives on the device and syncs through the user's own iCloud — including for free users. No account, no analytics, no advertising.

What makes it different

• Card values as one-tap presets. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH are read off colour cards with a fixed set of possible results. Aquafern offers exactly those, so most readings are a single tap rather than typed.
• Small multiples, not one overlaid chart. pH lives on 6–8 and calcium on 380–450; on a shared scale one of them is a flat line at the edge. Each parameter gets its own facet on a shared x-axis instead.
• Backup is free. Losing a non-subscriber's log to a paywall is a choice, and Aquafern doesn't make it. iCloud backup and sync work on the free tier; the subscription gates how much history is charted, not whether it is kept.
• Skipping a parameter records nothing, not zero. "Didn't test" and "tested and got zero" are different facts, and conflating them would corrupt every chart downstream.
